That was quite a thing once. In fact it still is. I hired a car just last month with something like that.
On a pedantic note, mile and trip meters have always been digital. Maybe not electronic, but digital.

Truth be told, that’s not actually my dash (mine has a 7,500 red line because lower spec engine) but nonetheless it goes to 8,200. I’ve only been there once.

Well, odometers use digits to show a reading rather than a moving pointer or whatever so digital.
You could argue I suppose that the tenths are analogue because the little wheel doesn’t move one step at a time!
